Caution

Inspired by The Killers

birthday wishes died at midnight

when Cinderella ditched her prince

her blacktop beginnings saw tarot swords

march in threes   eights   nines   & tens

by cathedral doors

cautionary tales took root

by the promenade

a song rallied for change

under mandatory incognito   she fought for her sanity

threw caution west of the bay

as seagulls flew around her   she raised her arms to the sun

lips in affirmation

found freedom when the mask behind her mask

lost its grip   fell to the rocks below
