Thieved Babies

 

In the still they pace and ferret

squinting in bedded darkness,

in unmetered time blinking

as black curtains draw closed

across Lady Macbeth’s pharmacy.

 

They are the diaspora of heart sound,

of memory and footprints

finding visa, passport, and citizenship

in the comfort of strangeness,

 

hasty angles, crooked noise

thieved babies know.
