Kissing the Underworld

It is far too late in this impenetrable darkness

sometime during a midday night unexpected

I touched the underworld unaware.

Another step into a cold tunnel without walls

oozing with a thick mist made of another day’s sufferings

I held onto the uncertain side of another world.

Hugging a frigid statue clear as deadly glass

yet unable to hold my grasp onto a precious hour

I fell to my knees alone in the face of the giant.

Revealed to the realm as on the instant of beginnings

in a last resilient effort I looked to a bright star

blinded by the glance of an eternal wisdom.

Pleading as only I could in my infinite meekness

seeking comfort between unsurmountable jagged peaks

I placed a humble kiss upon the underworld.
